The Williamstown Lady Demons softball team secured a commanding victory against Villa Madonna on Wednesday, March 20, winning by a final score of 15-4.

Williamstown wasted no time in asserting their dominance, with an early lead established after Karaline Peer’s ground out and Karson Heaverin’s single, each driving in a run.

Villa Madonna quickly caught up, as one of their players drew a walk, adding a run, followed by another single to bring in two more runs, briefly shifting the momentum in Villa’s favor with a score of 3-2.

Villa wasn’t able to keep the lead in the second inning as they faltered, committing three errors that allowed Williamstown to seize control, extending their lead to 7-3.

Williamstown’s momentum only intensified in the top of the third inning, highlighted by McKayla Lamson’s triple, Peer’s triple, and an additional error by Villa.

On the defensive end, Williamstown shined, conceding zero hits and only one run over four innings, tallying an impressive eight strikeouts and allowing just one walk.

Peer and Hailey Webb emerged as pivotal figures in securing Williamstown’s victory, showcasing their pitching talents throughout the game.

“I am expecting big wins this season, I feel like we can be the second seed if we really try. It’s my dream,” Webb said.

After every practice, Webb says, “I have a dream to be second seed.”

Webb, who started in the pitching circle for Williamstown, yielded only one hit and three runs over two innings, striking out two batters and walking six.

Peer’s contributions were equally important, demonstrating a triple in the third inning and crucial singles in both the fifth and sixth innings.

The offensive firepower of Williamstown was evident with a total of 19 hits recorded during the game.

“We are going to take the good things and build on them because we know what we can do, we just have to get out of our heads,” Webb said. “By winning it’s like we can do it so we are going to do more of it.”

Addison Workman and Peer proved to be an unstoppable duo, each driving in two runs for the team.

Heaverin stood out with an impressive four hits during the fifth inning.

Webb, Leslie Martin, and Lamson also made significant offensive contributions, collecting multiple hits to further solidify Williamstown’s dominance on the field.

“We didn’t let our errors get to us, if we made one we picked up and moved on, but we stayed upbeat and positive the whole game and I think we were a team,” Webb said.

“We weren’t playing individually, we were playing together.”

With a 15-4 victory, Williamstown sets its sights on the next challenge, as they prepare to host Holy Cross at home on Monday, March 25.
