Omer H. “Blackie” Blackburn, 89

Omer H. “Blackie” Blackburn, 89, of Crittenden died Tuesday Feb. 20 at his residence. He was born Aug. 4, 1934 in Grant County.

Omer was the son of the late Elga and Nellie Jane Goldsberry Blackburn. He was a retired truck driver for A & H Trucking and a Teamsters Business Agent for Local #100. At age 51 he began farming with his son. He was a member of the former Clarks Creek Baptist Church, a member of the Crittenden Masonic Lodge, a 32 Degree member of the Scottish Rite, a former Shriner, and a member of the Good Guy’s Club in Walton. At the time of his passing, Omer had been united in marriage for 67 years to his wife, Marcus Loraine Hutton Blackburn.

In addition to his wife, Marcus Blackburn, also surviving is his son, Omer Ray (Lisa) Blackburn of Williamstown; four daughters: Theresa (Paul) Abney of Erlanger; Pamela Parsons of Independence; Rita (Lanny) Arnold of Georgetown; and Denise (Ken) Walsh of Crittenden; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown followed by burial at the New Vine Run Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
