At the March 11 meeting of the Corinth City Council, Courtney New, Director of Northern Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (NKY ASAP) presented Mayor Dalaney Bishop with an award of Excellence. The award was for the city’s Smoke-Free Ordinance enacted in Nov., 2023.
The city has received an updated bid of $375 per month from Michael True for the maintenance of Marathon Lane. The bid is up from $250 per month in 2023.
Because the previous contract ended in December and with the heavy rains, Tara Wright, city clerk, said the city had asked True to add gravel and he suggested two loads at $320 per load. True and the city can then enter into a contract for 2024. The council agreed and accepted the bid and extra gravel.
The city had gotten a bid from Reigler Blacktopping in 2023 for roadwork. With the city receiving grant monies and having set aside money for road repairs, Wright said she will be contacting the company for a rebid this year.
Bishop said the play ground equipment for the park has been received. He said they are “waiting on the weather to break” for installation.
Wright said the city is waiting on guidance from City Attorney Pete Whaley concerning cleanup of Main Street. Broken windows, the “burnt house” and log cabin are under consideration.
Bishop also noted the city has been trying to meet with the City of Dry Ridge concerning the Interlocal Agreement for Emergency Management Service but has been unable to schedule a time.
Marsha Bach, of FFLAGG and Northern Kentucky Health Department, noted there have been no complaints nor issues since the Smoke Free Ordinance went into effect in November.
Launi Gum, program director/project coordinator of Champions for a Drug Free Grant County, discussed the Jan. 2025 enactment of Senate Bill 47 legalizing medical marijuana.
Gum went over the parts of the new law that will affect children as well as potential controls local governments can enact including a complete ban, ordinances, moratoriums and election votes. Changes are still being made during the current legislative session.
She said Champions would be happy to help the city with any questions or technical issues they may encounter.
The next scheduled meeting of the Corinth City Council will be held on April 8, 2024 at 7 p.m. at 215 Thomas Lane, Corinth. For more information, call (859) 824-5922.
