Williamstown High School’s track team displayed outstanding performances at the North Central Kentucky Track Conference Championships hosted by Henry County on Tuesday, April 15.
Both the girls’ and boys’ teams secured second place out of ten competing teams, with the girls earning 114 points and the boys tallying 105 points.
The meet kicked off with the Williamstown girls’ 4x800 relay team—comprising Cameron Reynolds, Harper Mann, Chloe Lanter, and Bianca Dills—setting the pace by finishing first out of four teams in 11:51.
Following suit, the boys’ 4x800 relay team—Layne Clark, Javonte Yangoua, William Osborne and Riley Morris—secured another first place finish among six teams with a swift time of 8:59.
Avery King competed in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles, setting a new school record with a time of 21.89 seconds.
Lily Fabela achieved a personal best (PR) in the girls’ 100-meter dash, clocking in at 14.27 seconds and finishing 6th out of 27 participants.
In the boys’ 100-meter dash, Owen Taylor ran an impressive 11.85 seconds, securing second place out of 44 competitors.
In the girls’ 1600-meter run, Cameron Reynolds set a new PR of 6:26, placing second out of seven runners.
Osborne also delivered a standout performance in the boys’ 1600-meter run, achieving a PR of 5:11 and finishing sixth.Javonte Yangoua followed closely with a time of 5:18, securing eighth place out of 24 runners.
Fabela continued in the girls’ 400-meter dash, finishing in 1:07 and placing second, with Ava Martin securing seventh place out of 11 runners with a time of 1:14.
Taylor dominated the boys’ 400-meter dash and was marked as KY top 50 with a time of 51.92 seconds, earning him the top spot among 23 competitors.
“It felt alright getting first in the 400 event, but I’m really looking for the school record so I’m a little disappointed I’m not there yet,” Taylor said. “It’s good to do this well this early cause I have one more year and I’m only getting better. ”
Mann triumphed in the girls’ 800-meter run, setting a PR of 2:40 and claiming first place, while Dills finished fourth out of 14 runners with a time of 2:56.
Morris showcased his skills in the boys’ 800-meter run, finishing second with a time of 2:06, closely followed by Aaron Reynolds in seventh and Javonte Yangoua in eighth out of 29 participants.
In the girls’ 200-meter dash, Fabela maintained her strong performance with a time of 29.43 seconds, placing sixth, while Martin finished in 32.62 seconds, securing 13th place out of 23 runners.
Taylor finished third in a field of 39 in the boys’ 200-meter dash with a time of 23.91 seconds.
The girls’ 3200-meter run saw Cameron Reynolds securing another second place finish with a time of 14:12.
In the relay events, the girls’ 4x400 team—comprised of Dills, Fabela, Mann and Lanter—finished third with a time of 4:46, while the boys’ 4x400 team—Clark, Javonte Yangoua, Morris and Taylor—clinched first place among seven teams with a time of 3:42.
Turning to field events, King competed in the girls’ long jump, finishing sixth with a jump of 11-0. Honore Yangoua excelled in the boys’ high jump, winning the event with a height of 6-0.
Tanya Streine impressed in the girls’ shot put as she was marked KY top 50 with a throw of 31-2.50 and secured second place, while Gracey Crump achieved a PR with a throw of 25-11, placing fourth out of 15.
Zach Mirones represented in the boys’ shot put with a throw of 32-10, finishing ninth out of 20 competitors.
In the girls’ discus throw, Streine set a PR with a throw of 82-7, securing second place, followed by Crump in fifth with a throw of 71-3, and Maci Spivey setting a PR of 53-3 and finishing eighth out of 14.
In the boys’ discus throw, Mirones threw 107-4, securing second place, while Pranay Patel set a PR with a throw of 83-3, finishing eighth out of 23.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, King stated, “I think our team did absolutely amazing at the Henry County meet, although we had a little bit of a letdown in the end with coming in second just by a few points, I’m still really proud of everyone and all of the girls who got PRs and medals.”
Taylor echoed optimism for the season ahead, saying, “We are always locked in and ready for meets, also looking forward to breaking records.”
