Maggy Livingood teaches a nutrition class

Maggy Livingood, food service director for Grant County Schools, teaches a class on nutrition as part of the USDA Healthy Meals Incentive Grant.

Earlier in the school year the food service department at Grant County Schools was the recipient of the USDA Healthy Meals Incentive Grant. Food Service Director Maggy Livingood has been busy putting the grant to use within the school district and recently presented at a national summit in St. Louis.

“Can anyone tell me the vegetable that helps our eyes?” Livingood asked a group of kindergarten students during a recent nutrition class.

Livingood has traveled to each elementary school talking about nutrition and the importance of what we eat and how it impacts our bodies.

“The students have been really attentive,” she shared.

Part of the grant ensured Livingood’s participation in the Healthy Meals Summit in St. Louis, Missouri on April 8-10.

Livingood presented her experience with the nutrition classes and how student lunches impact their lives.

The Healthy Meals Incentives Grant focuses on supporting districts in improving the nutritional quality of their meals and modernizing their operations.

“We are very thankful to have received this funding and I am excited to continue the conversation with students about nutrition. I am passionate about improving the quality of the food we serve within Grant County Schools.” Livingood shared.
