Mioeka Morse

Cynthiana native Mioeka Morse was recently named to the Fayette County Educational Support Professionals Association (KCESPA) Board of Directors as Ethnic Minority Director.

This is just one of several recognitions Morse has received lately.

Last year she won the prestigious Education Support Professional of the Year Award presented by the Kentucky Education Association (KEA).

In March, Morse went to Las Vegas, Nevada to represent the state of Kentucky at the National Educators Association conference. It was at the national conference that she learned of her nomination to the KCESPA board.

“Being a minority is less about a person’s ethnicity and more about challenges Kentuckians face in their daily lives,” Morse clarified.

She views her appointment to the board as an opportunity to be involved in the decisions affecting programs that address the challenges faced daily be students and teachers.

A paraeducator at Harrison Elementary in Lexington, Morse’s commitment to and influence on youth extends beyond the classroom.

Morse spends countless evening, weekend and summer hours working with the school’s Family Resource Center and as a community volunteer for the Salvation Army and Boys and Girls Club.

In her role as the FCESPA Ethnic Minority Director, Morse will be attending the RESPECT conference June 8.

Excited to begin her new role as the voice for quality public education, Morse said, “This has been an amazing year and will continue to be awesome as I fill this position.”
